fun run

on Friday the 18th of may we did a sponsored fun run. we had to run though water, crawl under a tarpaulin, and jump hay bails. rooms 1 and 2  ran for 20 minutes, room 3 ran for half an hour,  room 4 ran for 40 minutes, room 5 ran for 50 minutes and room 6 ran for 1 hour. it was really muddy and at the end we all got a free juice.

Hangi day at Tomarata

Last Friday, a handful of willing helpers arrived at Tomarata School to build our Hangi. It was an early start for them , because they had to start the Hangi hours before school started if they wanted to get the Hangi served in time for lunch.

Everyone gathered around the Hangi area to watch the men lift the hot rocks out of the Hangi pit. They were very careful not to burn themselves! The baskets, which were to contain the food, were loaded with Kumara, Potato, Meat of many sorts and even Stuffing.

Once the Hangi was ready, we all knew about it! The smell was mouth-watering, and everyone crowded around the deck to get a look at what we were going to eat, and some people even went up for seconds! 


Everyone thought it was delicious, and we all left with full bellies!

What Anzac Day is all about

Anzac Day is a day to celebrate the brave lives of people who fought in the wars against other countries.The people who fought for our country. The date also represents the anniversary of when the Anzacs arrived in Gallipoli. In Gallipoli 8,000 Australian soldiers were killed and 18,000 were wounded. There were 2,400 New Zealand soldiers killed and 5,100 were injured. So it was a great loss to Australia and New Zealand. Today lots of countries celebrate this very important day to thank those very brave and courageous soldiers.

The Hunger Games Murals

Room 6 has been listening to Mr M read The Hunger Games to us. Now we have finished making our murals. One of them is the Opening Ceremony and Training Center they look really great. Come along for a look

the start of room 6

Room 6 this year is going fast, we are learning lots and we are getting ready for swimming sports tomorrow. The hall is looking good and we can't wait untill we are welcome to go in... At the moment we are reading The Hunger Games and all of us can't wait for the movie to come out. We have split in to 4 groups and looking at how we can make our classroom fun, but still getting the work done. There are 4 principles in the FISH book, Make Their Day! Play! Choose Your Attitude! Be Present! We are making tv adds about one of principles. We have a yummy sticker sheet and the most stickers we get, the most sports gear we get and at the moment we have 31.
So this is what room 6 is doing so far...

Tomarata School Production

The last couple of days Tomarata School has been very busy. They have been performing their own school production. The ideas for this production was the year 7&8's. They have been put together by Maureen Skinner and Val Couling. The senior students have been practising their lines over the last school holidays and they have been working very hard.It was a great turn out, lots of people turned up to watch the great performance. We presented it three times and now all the children are tired. We really enjoyed performing it was exciting. I think the crowds liked it too.All the teachers are proud of us. :)

Museum Trip

On Wednesday the 1st of June Rooms 4, 5 and 6 went on a trip to the Auckland Museum. We went in to the Maori culture and Polynesia parts of the museum. The trip was very interesting and we have learned a lot about the Pacific Islands and Maori culture. The Pacific Island section of the museum was very helpful because Rooms 4, 5 and 6 are learning about this. Room 6 students are doing studies about 4 of the countries in the Pacific. The museum was a big help to all of us to help us understand more about what we are learning about.
