Terrific Tomarata Tales

Tomarata School Production - Terrific Tomarata Tales on PhotoPeach

Tomarata School Production

The last couple of days Tomarata School has been very busy. They have been performing their own school production. The ideas for this production was the year 7&8's. They have been put together by Maureen Skinner and Val Couling. The senior students have been practising their lines over the last school holidays and they have been working very hard.It was a great turn out, lots of people turned up to watch the great performance. We presented it three times and now all the children are tired. We really enjoyed performing it was exciting. I think the crowds liked it too.All the teachers are proud of us. :)

Museum Trip

On Wednesday the 1st of June Rooms 4, 5 and 6 went on a trip to the Auckland Museum. We went in to the Maori culture and Polynesia parts of the museum. The trip was very interesting and we have learned a lot about the Pacific Islands and Maori culture. The Pacific Island section of the museum was very helpful because Rooms 4, 5 and 6 are learning about this. Room 6 students are doing studies about 4 of the countries in the Pacific. The museum was a big help to all of us to help us understand more about what we are learning about.

She walks in smiley as always. Her bouncy ginger hair is captured by a blue hair tie. Her black and sparkly socks wrap around her legs to keep them warm. She has freckles glued all over her face. Her raging red checkered jacket falls over her shoulders. Her teeth are white like the clouds in the. Two fiery bits of hair drip down past her eyes.

Question letters

Dear Holly,
How was my week? It was incredible, but the flight was not as outstanding as I thought it would be. Did I have a grand ride? Well yes the elephants were so loyal and it was so peaceful, but scorching hot so we had a little bath in the pure aqua water. When am I coming home? I don’t exactly want to came home it is so lovely here, but my two weeks is nearly up so I am going to make the most of it. I might go and trace some glorious gorillas.

Athletics Day

On Wednesday the 6th of april we had athletics day. Schools from all over came and we did all sorts of activities. The highlight of the day for me was the finals. But it was a bummer when we all found out there was no relays.People were selling drinks and sausages and many people were there and I'm sure everyone had a good time. I'm glad to hear that many tomarata student's did well in the athletics day.The hardest things was the 400m but it was a great day after all.The day after that everyones legs were sore.

Rodney College Head Boy and Girl visit to Room 6 - Wed 23 March 2011 on PhotoPeach

Visit from head boy and girl of Rodney College

On Wednesday 23rd March Room 6 had a visit from the head boy and girl from Rodney College. They came to talk to us about leadership and the responsibilities of being head boy and girl. At the end of their talk Room 6 had a chance to ask questions. Some of our questions really made them think. They talked about when they went to a leadership camp and about some the things they did. They ended up showing us some of the games that they played. But then it was time to go and so we said goodbye and thank you. I think Room 6 learned a lot from them about leadership and also had a lot of fun.

visit by head girl and boy from Rodney College

On Wednesday Brittany and Romahn came to talk about leadership. They talked about their responsibilities at Rodney College as head boy/girl. They played games with us. We played pukana and finger grab. We all really enjoyed them. They told us about the leadership roles when they were younger and how it helped become great leaders. Some of the roles they had were cadets, Surf life saving, whanau leaders etc. We had a great time with them and we learnt lots!

One sentence stories

As the water came crashing down over the streets I heard screams and scared people crying then it was all over.

Shawnee

And there came the big black water streaming past me at 100kms an hour flooding everything in its way, pushing cars into brick walls then the water was at my feet.

Mr M conference update

Hi everyone, it is the morning of the last day of the conference. I have had a couple of days of some very engaging speakers with topics ranging from letting students be the teacher, looking into the future, thinking about what a leader is ,brain-based learning and what is inquiry learning? I get to have a play with some LEGO robotics this morning prior to the final Keynote Speaker of the conference. It has been a great week in terms of professional development and I'm sure much of what I've heard with be beneficial to me in the future. GPM

Learning@School 2011 - Rotorua

The teacher is at a conference. I arrived safely on Tuesday afternoon and after a couple of small issues I checked into my motel and settled in. Wednesday morning - have registered and am now sitting and waiting for the conference to start. It begins with a welcome to all delegates and no doubt there will be some changes to the programme with the events in Christchurch. The images on the TV are absolutely terrible and incomprehensible to those not on the ground in the city. After, there is the first keynote speaker followed by a day of breakouts (workshops). I'm looking forward to it and will try to post regular updates.
