Super Speakers

Congratulations to the members of Room 6 who competed in the EWES Cluster Speech Finals today. An awesome job from all the students. In the Yr 7/8 category Kristian was victorious and Aimee 2nd - a very close decision by all accounts. This is great news for two students who have put a lot of time and effort into their speeches this term. Luke and Rebecca from Room 5 also placed 2nd and 3rd, respectively, in the Yr 5/6 category - well done.

CONGRATULATIONS

Well done Daniel and Jamie for getting into the Rodney-Otamatea Taniwha Cup rugby team. It will be lots of fun when we go up to Dargaville to play the competition on July the 6th. We are staying at a Marae just out of Ruawai - that will be fun as well. We are also selling rafle tickets to fundraise for the trip and team tracksuits. The tickets are 5$ each and you could be into win 2 draws for half a side of beef.

CHILLY

The wind whistles through my hair as I walk through the cool air. There's a shiver down my spine as another huge gust of wind slaps me in the face. There is a pitter-patter on the pavement as the rain starts to fall from the grey clouds. There are a few screams from two girls running to find shelter. "We should probably get back to class," says a chilled voice from behind me. But I am frozen! The thing is, I don't exactly know why. I get a nudge from my best friend who is standing beside me as she runs back to class. I follow her as the wind whistles through my hair.

Our netball tournament!

As I walk down the hill, my eyes wander over the grey, concrete courts, searching. Out of the corner of my eye, I spot a glimpse of red and blue uniforms, and I jog down to join my team. It was Sunday 30th May, and we had a netball tournament. Two teams from Tomarata were entering, and I was really excited to get on the court and play!
We won our first game 18-4, and our second 14-22. We then played a team from a college down in Auckland, and we lost 13-7, but won our next game against Dargaville.
Because we won most of our games, we got to play off for third, and we won!
I was so pleased that we got third place, but I was pretty puffed afterwards!

Many thanks to all our parents, and of course our wonderful coach Vanessa!

Room 6 Speeches

What a wonderful way to begin the delivery of speeches in Room 6. 10 willing students shared their speeches and it was obvious to me that a great deal of effort had gone into preparing and rehearsing them. Well done to those students. I look forward to hearing the reminder of the class on Thursday and Friday.
