Weather machines

This term, our class (room 6) has been studying weather. As part of our study we had to make a weather machine to do with the weather. Bethany and I (michelle) created a rain gauge. We put 8 jars together in a circle and then put barriers around each of them. With the barriers there, it will be able to tell us which direction the rain comes from aswell as how much rain there actually is. Here is a pic of our weather device/ machine thingy:

The Flood

Sitting in the house gazing out at the first drops of rain,Its just begun in nearly a minute it pours heavily onto the misty window.Clear blue drops rapidly run down the window as if it was a race. It plays a sweet melody as it pounds onto the cars.

The television screen fades, light bulbs flickers a candle lit house. morning soon arrives but the worst is yet to come. The paddocks soacked to the core cows give out desperate crys.

Roads turn to rivers gloomy clouds turn to sun light. The damage has all ready been done. Now we will just have to wait

Swim meet

On Sunday the 14th of September I went to Whangaparoa to compete in the Coast leg of the 5 swim meets. This was only my second swim meet and I was shaking in my sneakers! I walked in to the pool and quickly made my way to the rest of the Kowhai swim club. There was only three of us competing in this round, they were Emilea and Chantalle but they were only a couple of years younger than me! My mum was there to help me with all my things and give me powerade and energy chocolate, but my little brother Finn came as well to cheer me on! The first race up was 50 backstroke I took my place on the starter and beep went the whistle as I dived in... the rest of the day for me went really fast. Overall I finished with 5 first places ,1 second and 1 third out of the nine races that I raced in. A very good result for only starting this year! By Caitlyn W

Weather Projects

Currently we are working on a weather project. Steph and I are making a thing like a rain gauge. We are measuring how much rain we get each day for a week. We haven't started yet but we are planning what to do. Hopefully it works. Fingers crossed.By Phoebe and Stephanie

NIPS Ski Champs

The 2nd and the 3rd of September attracted many Students from all over the North Island to compete at Whakapapa, Mt Ruapehu in the yearly North Island Primary School Ski Champs. With about 380 individuals racing, and about 74 teams, the event has made skiing the biggest primary school sport played. Over three days, competitors would compete in two racers. One in which consisted in retaining a good time. And the other called Duel Slalom. In duel; slalom you are matched with a partner with a similar time as you from the race the day before. If you win the race between the two, your recieve two points, if you loose, one point. This year two students from Tomarata school and two from Warkworth primary competed in a team as like years beforehand. Hannah And Amy dixon, Both from Warkworth primary raced on the senior girls course. Harry izard price and Alexia Becroft from Tomarata school, raced on the Senior boys course and senior girls. The first day for 'Warkworth combined' was a great one. All finishing in the top twenty, With Amy the best in fourth and Harry in fifth. Unfortunatly as our team waited anxiously for news about the duel slalom race, which had been delayed twice already, because of white out conditions. The race was called off. We ended up finding out how we had done at prizegiving held at National Park school the next day. two simple words, were all we needed to create such excitment that day. We Won!
